A Trip by Car

I often make a trip by trains because it's both cheap and comfortable. Last winter holidays I traveled in a car for the first time in my life. At first I didn't feel well. But this kind of feeling didn't last long. the trip was exciting. While travelling in a car, we could stop at any time if we wanted to enjoy the viewoutside. the fields, the mountains and rivers were really very nice. On the way we visited many places of interest and took a lot of photos. It was an unforgettable experience for me.

A Picnic

A Picnic It was a sunny day. We decided to have a picnic outside the city. In the morning, we took an early bus to Nanhui. It was quite a colorful world. there were GREen trees, orange leaves, red peach blossoms. At noon, we reached the place, we sat by the river bank and took out a lot of things, such as bread, orange juice, apples, cakes, eggs and so on. But all of a sudden, it began to rain. Unluckily there was no shelter nearby. We had to take a bus to go back home in a hurry. What an unforgettable picnic it was!

21st Century: Newspapers Vs. Internet

21st Century: Newspapers Vs. Internet The advent of mass printing in the lbth century has once brought about magnificent influence to the world both socially and politically. A piece of newspaper in hand, one could be in formed of what was happening around the world even without having to get out of his armchair. Nowadays, however, the role of newspaper is being seriously challenged by the booming IT industry or world wide web, satellites, optic-cables, to name just a few. As a matter of fact, In today's world where nearly every thing starts with an "e", newspaper will be replaced by other computer based means. First of all, newspaper can never match internet in its speed. Actually, information of any kind can be transported digitally at up to 300,000,000 meters per second. In a world of efficiency, newspaper can be defeated for this reason solely. Besides, with internet, information can be transmitted 3 dimentional, which consists of sound, live show and even interaction. Whereas in the paper, only words and photographs could be presented in news stories. Therefore, the former has been made more vivid and descriptive. Last but not least, computerizing the process of information dissemination provides us with a more objective and state-of-the art point of view. Through internet, we can obtain every detail we might want to know, which was sometimes unrevealed by newspapers for this or that reason. Obviously, the more accurate the facts are, the more easily an objective opinion can be formed. In conclusion, though newspaper is still regarded as indispensable for our daily routines,it cannot match internet in many aspects.

Your Ideal Partner

Your Ideal Partner personality Appearance Intelligence Job/FuturePerson A * * * * * * * * * * * *Person B * * * * * * * * * * * * *Person C * * * * * * * * * * * *Directions: The chart indicates some of the characteristics of three people of approximately your age. Which of them would you prefer as a partner in life, as husband, wife, or closest friend? Explain your reason for your choice. If I were to choose one person from the three people in the chart, to be my partner in life, I would choose A. This is because of his characteristics which I think will suit my characteristics. His personality attracted me most when I was considering this question. Since I myself am of an amiable character, I find that I always enjoy the company of friendly persons. A's pleasant appearance also attracts me which is a fact I can't deny. I would like my husband to be, though probably not extremely attractive, at least good-looking. Beside, I like a person of average intelligence because I am of average intelligence myself and I think my days will be more enjoyable if both of us are at the same intelligent level. One word more, he has a good job and a fine future, which certainly play an important part in our happiness. Therefore, I will choose person A to be my partner in life because I think that his overall condition goes with mine and that I will be happy sharing my life with this person.

Modern Technology Has Brought about Changes in the Roles of Men and Women

For centuries, the roles of women and men in any country, remained unchanged. However, modem technology has made it possible for men and women to assume new roles. Some of these changes in roles have been very beneficial. The role of women has shifted from mere housewives at home to employees in the outside working world, for now there are a lot of work that women can do or even can do better than men. This change has widened women's outlook. Women can now better understand men and the society. Men's roles have changed greatly as well. The world is no longer a man's world. When their wives help to support the family, they help with many domestic chores that were not considered manly before. In conclusion, these changes have been very beneficial. The two sexes are able to understand each other better and they are making contributions to society side by side.

Jet Transportation, a Great Development in Transportation

One of the most important developments in transportation is the development of international jet transport and now the jet plane has become one of the leading means of transportation. Since this type of transportation appeared in the 1950s, it has changed the way people look at the world. The most obvious important characteristic of jet travel is the high speed. A hundred years ago, it took weeks to cross the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans by ship. Today, those same trips can be completed in several hours. Another important aspect of jet travel is its relatively low cost. Aninternational journey one hundred years ago was extremely expensive. Only wealthy people could afford it. Today it is possible for more and more people in every country to travel in comfort with the help of jet planes. In conclusion, the speed and low cost of international jet travel have changed the world and the world seems to become smaller than it was in the past.

Be Active in Class

Most Chinese students tend to be silent and reluctant to answer questions in class, let alone to raise any question. It is in fact a very bad custom for a student. We should be active in class. First of all, students should show initiative. During a class, only listening to the teacher and taking notes are not enough. We must use our heads and think along with the teacher. By answering questions, we can test our knowledge. By raising questions to the teacher, we may learn more. In addition, being active in class will strengthen our confidence. If one is too timid to answer a question in class, how can he get enough courage to take any challenge in society in the future? No opportunity waits for men, but men can grasp opportunity. The same is true of the studies in class. We will find more opportunities in class if we are active enough, and we will certainly learn more than those passive ones.

Convenience and Nature

When we go to the dining hall of our college, we use disposable chopsticks. Those chopsticks are made of wood, and the wood comes from our forest. It is always easy for people to accept things which can bring convenience to them. So when the disposable utensils come into use, they become popular at once. Countless chopsticks are discarded after eachmeal. People get used to it, but Nature does not. Therefore, sandstorms ravage the land; desert expands its territory; floods and droughts claim lives and property. Nature is expressing her objection to such convenience in her own way for the loss of her forest. It is high time we stopped pursuing convenience regardless of Natare. Although their is a long way for us to go to raise everyone's awareness of environmental protection, we must try our best to let everyone love and protect our Mother Nature, for her sake and for our own sake as well.

Dont Scribble on the Desk

The desk is the place at which one can read and write. But in the classrooms of our campus, we can often read something on the surface of the desks, because someone writes directly on it. In nly opinion, scribbling on the desk is vandalism, even though some scribbles are regarded as artistic or literary works by a few. Desks at the college are public property. Students have no right to express personal feelings by scribbling on them. In fact, most of the marks left there are meaningless and very ugly, and some are engraved by knives and the like that the damage is hard to remove. A college with good academic atmosphere should not allow such behavior and any student with morality will feel ashamed of that. So stop scribbling on the desks from now on. Let our campus remain clean and beautiful by our joint efforts.

Fireworks

There has long been a heated discussion by the public over the setting off of firecrackers and fireworks. Some people, especially the middle-aged and elderly, argue that playing with firecrackers during the Spring Festival is a traditional ritual. Others, usually younger people, claim that it brings about too much noise, air pollution and even danger to haman bodies. For example, a primary-school pupil was badly injured by fireworks in Shanghai last Spring Festival. In ray opinion, although the deafening sound and strong smell of firecrackers and fireworks give us a festive atmosphere, the negative effects on our environment and health are too great. With the increasing awareness of the Chinese people on the importance of environmental protection and with our central and local governments' efforts, I believe this tradition will be replaced by some new way of celebration soon.

At the Zoo

At the Zoo Last Sunday, my sister and I visited the Tianjin Zoo. We had a good time there. Early that morning, we got to the zoo. As .soon as we entered the zoo, we .saw a big white house. On the wall of the house, there was a picture of a panda. "This is the Panda's House, ", I said to my sister "Let's go and see the pandas first ". We ran to the Panda's House. It was big and clean. There were three pandas in the house. One of them was much smaller than the other two. Later we were told that the small panda was born just six months ago and was named "Jingjing". We watched Jingjing playing with a big ball near his mother. We cried: "Hello, Jingjing." We watched Jingjing playing with a big ball near his mother. We cried:" Hello, Jingjing. "Hearing this, Jingjing turned round and reared up, as if was saying:" Wel-corne! Warmly welcome!" Seeing this, rny sister and I were very happy. Then we went to see the Monkey-Hill. Most of the visitors, especially the children love the monkeys very much. There were a lot of monkeys on the hill. Some of them were playing, and some were running about. Others were hanging from trees by their tails. A small monkey ran towards us and wanted to get some food from us. My sister threw a banana to him. He caught it and made faces to us. This made the people around us laugh.

My Mother

My Mother My mother is a kind and gentle woman. She is always very gentle. She takes good care of her children and keeps them all at school. I have two brothers and two sisters. So she gets five children in all. She gives us every comfort we need. We all love her very much. My mother has too much to do in bring us up. As our family is not rich enough, my mother always hits to do a lot of work. She gets up very early and sleeps very late every day. She works very hard, yet without complaining. My mother is also a thrifty and industrious woman. She saves every penny that she can to keep everything in order. As she has been busy ever since she was young, she looks older than she really is. Her face is wrinkled, her hair becomes silver white, some of her teeth become movable. But she works as hard as ever. My mother often says to us," work while you work, play while you play. If you did not work, you will become lazy and of no use to the society." What a good piece of advice it is! We must worth it well and always keep it in our minds.

Why My Spoken Enslish is Poor?(

When we study English, we learn to listen, speak, read and write. Of these abilities, speaking is the most important. As we all know, the fundamental means of commUnication is speaking. Onlyby speaking to each other directly can two people exchange their ideas freely and efficiently. This is especially true in modern times when we live in a "global village", where joint ventures and overseas tourism become commonplace. Many employers in joint ventures speak English, so do most of the tourists. Many difficulties will arise if we can't express ourselves fluently in English. In spite of my awareness of its importance, I seldom find chances to practice and improve my oral English. So, I am still very weak with regard to this respect. one reason is that my pronunciation and intonation aren't good enough. The other is that I am so shy that I am always too nervous to find the exact words to express my ideas and feelings. As a result the best way for me to do is to remain silent when others are practicing and making great progress in their oral English everyday. Now I am attaching much more importance to oral English and I have made up my mind to seize every opportunity to practice. I begin to participate actively in all kinds of English activities, such as going to "English Corners", talking in English with my classmates and with native speakers. "Nothing is difficult in the world if you really put your heart to it." as the Chinese saying goes. If I can build up my confidence, if I am not afraid of losing face any more, if I really work hard on it, I am sure my oral English will be excellent someday.

How to Take Notes

There are many things you should do if you want to excel in college courses. One of the most important things, Ithink, is to take effective notes. The following tips should help you take better notes in your classes. First, attend classes faithfully. Copying another student's notes cannot substitute for hearing the idea in person. Second, develop a system of abbreviation. Using abbreviations for often used words and special terms can speed up your note taking. In addition, be alert for signals of importance: anything written on blackboard, definitions, examples, emphasized words, and repeated ideas. Writing down examples and connections between ideas is also essential. Too many students merely copy the terms the teacher puts on the blackboard; they forget that as time goes by, details that serve as a bridge between the ideas quickly fade. Next, review your notes after class toclassify and expand them. Finally, take notes in every class you attend. Otherwise, you are sure to forget most of what you hear. If you can follow the above tips, you are bound to find all your lessons easy and enjoyable. And, as time goes, you will do better than most of the students in your class.

How to Aohieve Success

Different people have different views on success. Some hold that making a great deal of money means success. Others argue that holding an important post in the government means success. Still others believe that having a high academic title at a famous university or a research institute means success. In my opinion, success means brilliant achievement in our work. In other words, no matter what we do, making outstanding contributions to the development of our country and bringing help and happiness to others is success. To achieve success, we should, first of all, have a clear long-term goal in our life. Besides, we should have short term goals in different periods of life. As we know, it is these short term goals that make our long-term goal possible. Second, we should be both perseverant and hardworking. Whatever we do, there are always two possibilities: success and failure. We should never lose heart when we come across difficulties or when we are confronted with failure. Instead, we should learn from our experience, build up our confidence and work even harder and smarter towards our purpose. Third, we should follow the examples of those who are successful and learn from them. Finally, we should try to get along well with our classmates and colleagues. We should care for each other and help each other in our study, our work and our life, because team work is of great importance in the realization of our dream. If we can follow these principles, we will certainly achieve remarkable success in our life.

How to Reduce Stress

As the pace of modern life continues to quicken, many people are in the habit of rushing through life. Some admit that stress seems to be on the increase all the time. A certain degree of stress is beneficial to us, but too much stress is certainly harmful, and sometinles may even harmful to our health and physique. So it is necessary to know how to reduce stress. There are many ways that can help us solve this problem, but the following may be the most effective. First, learn to COllie to terms with yourselves. Don't set a goal that is too high because there are many things in this world that are beyond your reach. Learn to be content to go as far as you can. Second, learn to COllie to terms with the world around you. Don't try to change other people or other things. There are people and things in this world that you can do nothing about. So learn to accept them. Third, don't be too interested in material things and don't try to "keep up with the Joneses." Don't harbor any jealousy, vanity or resentment to others. Be satisfied with what you have. Finally, keep in touch with your friends. Talk with them, share with them your happiness and misery. This will help to make you feel better. These are not necessarily the only ways to solve the problem, and it is my hope that everyone can reduce the too much stress in his work and study and live a relaxed happy life.

How to Deal with Stress

Stress is a state of being upset that happens when we are under pressure. Both our feelings and our bodies get upset. We can even get emotionally and physically sick if we have too much stress for too long. Stress can come at us from every direction. For instance, it can come from fights with other people. It can come when we have too many things to do and too little time to do them. It can also come when we do not have enough money to pay for what we want. Since stress can make us sick, we have to learn how to deal with it. There are good ways and bad ways to do so. We should deal with stress in good ways, of course. Good ways to cut down on stress include changing our lifestyles. For example, we can learn either to get along with people or to stay away from them. We can decide what to do now, what to do later, and what to leave off doing forever. We can also figure out how to get money or we can cut down on what we want. We should not deal with stress in bad ways because bad ways to cut down on stress just lead to more troubles, for example, skipping out and leaving our work undone, blaming our problems on someone else, stealing or cheating.

The Power Of Humor

People like to be considered humorous, but few of us actually have the sense of humor we hope we have. Some people, on the other hand, may wonder why we should bother to be humorous. These people, I am afraid, do not know the power of humor. A sense of humor can help you become a successful speaker. We can notice that there is no great speaker in the world who is not humorous. One of two humorous remarks can make the audience laugh, making your lecture an enjoyable one. A sense of humor can help you win a lot of friends. If you are humorous you will always attract alot of peoplearound you. A sense of humor canhelp to ease the tension between people. When people are about to quarrel, a humorous remark leading to laughter can help settle the problem. There are many ways to learn how to be humorous. Being together with someone who is humorous is one way. Reading some books which contain humor or humorous stories is another. But the most important way is that we should try to be optimistic about our life at present and, moreover, our life in the future.

Never Tell a Lie

Never think you will never be detected, when you want to tell a lie. The chances are, sooner or later, your lie witt be found out and it will then expose you to shame. Telling a lie is morally wrong. Besides, there are many disadvantages lying in the way of a liar. First, he has to have a good memory, lest he contradicts at one time what he said in another. Second, he is always annoyed by his conscience, because he is in constant fear that his falsehood may be found out. Third, a liar is never trusted and respected by others. The result may be that his words, even when he speaks the truth, are not believed. Fourth and the last, once a person has told a lie, he cannot help telling another in order to conceal the first, and then a third and a fourth, until lying becomes ahabit. After that, he may say something untrue even when he wishes to speak the truth. The disadvantages resulting from telling a lie are too many to be listed. The above are just some of the obvious ones. If you want to be free from these annoyances, if you want to be a trustworthy person, never tell a lie.

On Praise

Everyone wants to be appreciated and praised by others for what they do and what they say. For instance, children want to be praised by their parents. Students want to be praised by their teachers. Employees want to be praised by their employers. It seems that praise is like sunlight to us, we can't flower and grow without it. But it is a pity that while most of us are only too ready to blow the cold wind of harsh criticism on others, we are somehow reluctant to give people around us the warm sunshine of praise. For example, most mothers are always not satisfied with the progress their children made at school Most teachers always drown their studentscompositions in critical red ink, instead of commenting favorably on them. Most employersarealways criticalabout what their employees have done instead of giving encouragement to them. produces may be great. So, let's be alert to the small excellence around us and comment on them. We will not only bring joy into other people's lives, but also, very often, add happiness to our own.
